So, Kundalini Yoga, what is it and what can it do for you?

 

Mystics and Yogi’s going back thousands of years, were aware of the capacity to intensify and raise energy within the body as part of our natural human potential. Kundalini is a Sanskrit term, known as the vital force or energy that we all have within us.  It is said to lay dormant at the base of the spine until awakened.  It has often been depicted as a serpent coiled at the first chakra, also known as the root chakra. When this latent spiritual energy is activated, it has a power to transform the process of Self and Spiritual development. 


Many people have already experienced a kundalini kriya (movement of kundalini energy rising) without realising it.  It can be aroused by many varied practices.  Including deep meditation, pranayama (breathing techniques) the practice of asana’s (yogic postures) chanting mantras and advanced tantric sexual practices.  The orgasmic response in the body is part of the kundalini process.  Through Kundalini Yoga, altered or higher states of awareness are experienced.  This is a natural process as the practice is specifically designed to work on the nervous and glandular systems.  This is vital in these fast changing times, where the demands upon each of can be intense. The continuous outside stimulus of computers, mobile phones, tight work schedules and families impact the nervous system.  We are spirits having human experience.  Not computers with an on and off switch.   This continuous pounding can lead or contribute to us feeling exhausted, depressed, irritated, anxious and generally out of harmony with ourselves. 

A Kundalini Yoga class includes a dynamic set of exercises, breathing techniques, sound, chanting and meditation, all of which serve to reset the natural bio rhythm within the body, teaching it to relax where self-healing and a feeling of elevation takes place.  It is a powerful practice that will increase your vitality and ability to self heal, strengthening the whole body whilst cleansing the mind, leaving it in a sense of elevation.  Kundalini Yoga is described by some as the medicine for the 21st century.  Allowing the individual to learn to take care of their health and well-being. Learning to work with energy means learning to restore the natural power of your whole mind body system.
